Solución detallada
Tenemos la ecuación
$$\left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + \cot{\left(y \right)}\right)^{2} = \left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + 1\right) \left(\cot{\left(y \right)} - 1\right)$$
cambiamos
$$- \left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + 1\right) \left(\cot{\left(y \right)} - 1\right) + \left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + \cot{\left(y \right)}\right)^{2} - 1 = 0$$
$$- \left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + 1\right) \left(\cot{\left(y \right)} - 1\right) + \left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + \cot{\left(y \right)}\right)^{2} - 1 = 0$$
Sustituimos
$$w = \cot{\left(y \right)}$$
Abramos la expresión en la ecuación
$$- \left(w - 1\right) \left(\tan{\left(x \right)} + 1\right) + \left(w + \tan{\left(x \right)}\right)^{2} - 1 = 0$$
Obtenemos la ecuación cuadrática
$$w^{2} + w \tan{\left(x \right)} - w + \tan^{2}{\left(x \right)} + \tan{\left(x \right)} = 0$$
Es la ecuación de la forma
a*w^2 + b*w + c = 0

La ecuación cuadrática puede ser resuelta
con la ayuda del discriminante.
Las raíces de la ecuación cuadrática:

$$w_{2} = \frac{- \sqrt{D} - b}{2 a}$$
donde D = b^2 - 4*a*c es el discriminante.
Como
$$a = 1$$
